WPA Parks and Rec
Story
One out of every seven WPA dollars was spent in New York City. Robert Moses oversaw the construction of 650 playgrounds while serving as the parks commissioner. These playgrounds, a rule-less respite for kids without backyards, are ubiquitous with WPA projects of the 1930's.

Playland for borough tots Caption: "Playland for borough tots--Children are shown enjoying the new irrigated sandpit of the 1 1/4 acre playground on the north side of Aberdeen St. near Bushwick Ave. recently completed by the Department of Parks. A reconstruction project of the park included relocation of slides, swings and seesaws for kindergarten and older children." Image includes two adult women, presumably mothers, and several older children.
