Close-up of bell in tower of church at Church and Flatbush Avenues; raised type on bell reads, "Seest: John Van Der Bilt, Esq. gave this bell to the Reformed Dutch Church in Flatbush, Anno domini 1796." Caption on recto reads, "The Church Bell. Presented by Hon. John Vanderbilt in 1796, and in continuous use [to] present time. Captured by the British on its passage to this country from Holland; carried to Halifax, and recovered by a son-in-law of the donor."
