Five attached row houses, Nos. 136-144 Clinton Street (right to left), at Aitken Place, 1922. According to photographer Eugene Armbruster, the Italianate row houses were built by Wm. Evans in about 1845. City directory records confirm the houses were completed by 1855. The two houses at right were torn down ahead of the 1925 construction of the 12-story Insurance Building. Likewise, the corner building, No. 144, was replaced by a single-story Art Moderne structure in 1937. The St. Charles Borromeo Roman Catholic Church is visible at extreme left.
