144-140 West 64th Street, ca. 1911. The Amsterdam Houses are a 13-building public housing complex that covers 61st Street to 64th Street between West End and Amsterdam Avenues. Planned prior to the Second World War, they were begun in 1947. In the process of construction many rowhouses were demolished (including the two in this photograph).
