Irving Herzberg (b. 1915- d. 1991) took an interest in documenting the quieter moments of daily life, from Orthodox Jews in Williamsburg to beachgoers lounging at the shore at Coney Island. His collection spans his work from 1945 up until his death in 1991.

It was created to pivot the spotlight from Paris fashion designers and showcase New York's homegrown talent.
