The Crescent Athletic Club building (center-left, with domed roof), January 17, 1959. The Club, founded in 1884 and considered Brooklyn's premiere athletic club, moved into its domed Clinton Street headquarters in 1895, as membership surged. Such was the club's turn-of-the-century growth, that a new, larger headquarters was mooted as soon as 1902. In 1906, the new clubhouse was completed just a stone's throw away: the Frank Freeman-designed 129 Pierrepont Street, today part of the Saint Ann's School. The original building, like many structures on Clinton Street, was razed in the early 1960s.

Lookin' for scrap? Caption: "Lookin' for scrap?--The obsolete iron lamps, uselessly adorning the walls of the boarded-up Crescent \[Athletic] Club on Clinton St. \[at the intersection of Pierrepont Street], are just beginning to be salvaged in the metal drive."
