225 East 10th Street Building Date : Before 1853, 1967 Original Use : Residential Original Owner : Unknown (Before 1853), Gas Light Realty Corp. (1960-64) Original Architect : Unknown (Before 1853), M. Martin Elkind (1960-64) Description & Building Alterations This five-story residential building was altered from two four-story with basement tenements originally on the lot. During an alteration in 1916, the entrances to the two tenements at 225-227 East 10th Street were moved to the basement. It was not until 1960 that the two buildings were combined into one, from an alteration designed by M. Martin Elkind. The present facade features a plain brick surface. Most of the historical elements were lost after the renovation.

229 East 10th Street Building Date : 1889 Original Use : Residential Original Owner : Charles & Aug. Ruff Original Architect : Schneider & Herter Description & Building Alterations This four-bay wide, five-story tenement was erected in 1889 and designed by architects Schneider & Herter. It was originally built for 21 families, including one in the basement. The building facade features a bracketed cornice with elevated center piece and a brick round arch and projecting pier below, elaborate foliate beltcourses and decorations, patterned brickwork, round-arched window openings at the third story with keystones, ornamented panels, and segmental-arched window openings with figural keystones at the first story. The entrance is set on a stoop, flanked by short Corinthian columns supporting a round brick arch with tiled spandrels and a bracketed door hood on top.
