Borden's Plant
Post
Borden's Plant, formerly Empire State Dairy. Founded by Gail Borden Jr. in 1857, the Borden Company began as a producer of condensed milk. By the 1920s, the company had come to sell processed milk, evaporated milk, ice cream, and a whole slew of dairy products. Borden eventually became a holding company, and their subsidiaries became divisions. They dabbled in rendering to produce adhesives and plastics and bought up food companies like Wise and Cracker Jack. After suffering financial strain in the 1990s, the company was acquired by Grupo LaLa of Durango, Mexico.
