Board of Water Supply. Laying water distribution pipes. Beaver Engineering and Contracting company, contractor. In between the completion of City Water Tunnel No. 1 in 1915 and start of construction for City Water Tunnel No. 2 in 1928, the City laid miles of water pipes to improve the water distribution system in Williamsburg and Greenpoint and to increase the water supply of Long Island City and other parts of northern Queens. This photo was taken from the Hewes Street elevated train platform, looking south on Hooper Street and Broadway. Showing conditions during construction. July 24, 1925.
