Construction of the New Croton Aqueduct began in 1885, and by 1890, water flowed through this structure toward Central Park's receiving reservoir and into the City's distribution system. Taken out of service in 1984, the gate house is a New York City Landmark, on the National Register of Historic Places, and the current home of Harlem Stage. April 9, 1886.
