University Place, east side, from the N.E. corner of 10th Street to the S.E. corner of 9th Street, inclusive, showing demolition of the old University Place Presbyterian Church (1845) on the S.E. corner of 10th Street.
The Hotel Lafayette, owned by Raymond Orteig, is shown on the S.E. corner of 9th Street. Mr. Orteig was offering a cash prize for the first non-stop flight from New York to Paris; it was won by Charles A. Lindbergh, Jr., who took off from Roosevelt Field only three days after the date of this picture.
