Image represented is one of a related set (CHUR 0795, CHUR 0796), some of which may also be described in this new record; Facade and steeple of church with small churchyards bordered by iron and hedge fences, park benches, automobile, and two trees on far right, many commercial/residential buildings in background, and intersecting streets. Caption: "Located at Jay Street and Cathedral Place, it was the first Roman Catholic church in the Diocese of Brooklyn. In 1822 approximately 70 Catholics banded together to build St. James church and a cemetery. The cornerstone was laid the same year and dedicated in 1823. ... St. James [is] ... now known as St. James Pro-Cathedral."
