Brooklyn: Court Street - Montague Street
Court Street, west side, from Montague (right) to Remsen Streets. On the extreme right is the Mechanics Bank Building at the northwest corner of Court and Montague Streets. To the left of it, at the S.W. corner of the two streets, is the Continental Insurance Building (narrow buildfng) and the Phoenix Tnsurance Building. These two were torn down in 1926 and the 35-story Montague-Court Building erected on the site. The clearance to the left of the Phoenix Building, which is the northwest corner of Court and Remsen Streets, is the former site of the Garfield Building, where the 29-story Court-Remsen Building was later put up. The view is across Borough Hall Park from Fulton Street. The statue (center left) is that of Henry Ward Beecher, d'stinguished preacher of the Plymouth Church and
abolitionist.
