Newtown - Metropolitan Avenue - Middle Village

Metropolitan Avenue - view of the north side of Metropolitan Ave., looking west near 78th St. At far left is the Brick Tavern (Samuel Way's Brick Tavern in 1845), which later became John Schneider's Middle Village Hotel in 1868. The building was torn down in 1940 and in 1951 the H.C. Bohack Company acquired the site and built a supermarket on it - it now is a C-Town supermarket (75-43 Metropolitan Avenue). Brick bay window houses are 75-47 & 75-49 Metropolitan Ave. The two old buildings at right are the Abraham L. Folk House and Blacksmith Shop. Photo taken October 1923.
