Manhattan: 8th Street (East) - Broadway

137-143 East 8th Street and clearing, north side, between Broadway and Fourth Aveuue. 145 East 8th Street, the Termania Theatre at 147, and 42-58 Fourth Avenue have been demolished, being directly in the path of the subway. The houses shown here are also about to be demolished, and John Wanamaker's thirteen-story building will be erected here.
The Germania was originally St. Ann's Roman Catholic Church; it was converted into a theatre in 1879. It was known as Amberg's in 1885 and as the Eighth Street Theatre, a Hobrew playhouse, around
1892.
