Newtown - Coe's House (aka Coe's Mill, aka Titus House) - Corona
Coe's House (aka Coe's Mill, aka Titus House) - Located on the west side of Colonial Ave. near Van Doren St., opposite Mill Creek (aka Horse Brook). Capt. John Coe (b.1626) was the first owner of the mill, which started around 1652. The Coe family operated almost up to the Revolution, and then the mill was taken over by David Titus until 1810. Daniel Rapelye ran the mill through the early 1850s, then Carll into the 1860s. Each owner was living in the house while running the mill. The mill burned down in 1875, the house (built around 1654-55) was demolished by Sept. 1930. This spot is now covered by the Long Island Expressway.
