Newtown - Moore House - Elmhurst
Moore Homestead - Originally owned by the Rev. John Moore (d. 1657), this historic site evolved across generations of the Moore family. His son, Capt. Samuel Moore, built the home's center section in 1666. It was later expanded by Capt. Samuel's son, Benjamin, and further enlarged in 1760 by his grandson, Lt. Samuel Moore (d. 1788). Ownership then passed to Samuel’s brother, John (d. 1827). The Perry family, (relatives of the Moore’s), were the final owners, holding the property from the 1860s through the 1920s. The house was demolished in the 1930s to make way for the subway, its legacy lives on: a portion of the original footprint is now the Moore Homestead Playground.
