[St. Nicholas Avenue at 122nd Street: Eighth Avenue Line (IND)]

Photograph documents 122nd Street and St. Nicholas Avenue prior to construction of the IND Eighth Avenue Line. The sign in the photograph states that "New City Subway System Route 78 Section 3, Ground Will Be Broken on this Site on Saturday March 14, 1925 at 2:30, John F. Hylan- Mayor." Mayor John Hylan was one of the driving forces behind the creation of the municipally owned Independent Subway System (IND).
