Kingsbridge Power House

Kingsbridge Power House, ca. 1905. Built by the Third Avenue Railway Company, the Kingsbridge Power House provided electricity for the large network of trolleys that traveled through Manhattan. Called the "largest in the world" when it opened in the first years of the 20th century, the power generating station allowed for the replacement of cable-driven trolleys with electric powered street cars. The imposing Romanesque brick building was designed by engineer Isaac A. Hopper and measured 320 long by 250 feet wide. The building served the trolley system through the mid 1920s before its machines were turned off and the building abandoned. The structure was demolished sometime after trolley service was discontinued in 1948.

The 207th Street Yard extends from 207th to 215th Streets between 10th Avenue and the Harlem River. Originally constructed for the Independent city-owned system in 1932, today it serves as the home yard for R32 and R160 subway cars used on the C service. It also stores and maintains R32 cars used on the A service, and R62A cars used on the 1 service. This yard is one of two heavy overhaul shops in the transit system, it is equipped with a garbage transfer station and is also the site of various related facilities including: Signal Towers, an Administrative Building at 3961 10th Avenue, which opened in 1932 to accommodate offices for medical, clerical and timekeeping services, car and budget control, material inspection, and related operations, and the site of multiple transit storerooms.

The Corn Exchange Bank was a retail bank founded in New York State in 1853. Eventually it merged with Chemical Bank in 1954 and went under the name Chemical Corn Exchange Bank, later dropping Corn from the name under new mergers.

The interborough Rapid Transit Company was the first company to build the subway in New York City. The original line from City Hall in Downtown Manhattan to 145th Street opened on October 27th, 1904. The extension of the line past 145th street was always part of the original 1898 plan, including the section of the line from Dyckman Street into the Bronx, but ultimately changes occurred to make the terminus of the line 242nd Street-Van Cortlandt Park. The 207th Street Station was completed in 1906 but did not open until April 1, 1907. In 1907 the platform was originally built for a six-car train configuration, in 1948 platform extension work allowed for the current ten car operations we know today.
