Louis C. Tiffany Furnaces

“43rd Avenue, east of Junction Boulevard, showing at the right the Tiffany Studios. October 1928.” The Tiffany factory, built in 1893 as the Stourbridge Glass Company, produced the company’s signature favrile glassware here between 1901-32. The former factory was demolished in 2013; its site is now home to P.S. 315.

Burroughs House
Newtown - Burroughs House - Corona Burroughs House - Built by John Burroughs who died here in 1750. Joseph Burroughs (D.1820) occupied the farm and Dutch house in 1778. The house was on the north side of Corona Ave. (formerly Newtown Ave.), a little east of Way Ave. (now 102nd St.) Jonathan Randall in lived here in 1852, and Thomas (D.1835), son of Joseph then had it. George W. Burroughs owned 1852, 1873.

Then Joseph Burroughs owned it in 1778. His son Thomas who married Sarah Wyckoff (daughter of George Wyckoff) died here in 1835. Then George Wyckoff Burroughs who married the daughter of Isaac L. Moe owned it from the 1850s-1890s - a member of the Moe family owned the house in 1922.

It was built on the site of the William Stevenson house, which was purchased by Richard Betts in 1742. The Burroughs family and related Moe family retained ownership into the 1920s. The house was gone by June 1930.

The house was built by John Burroughs who died here in 1750. Then owned by Joseph Burroughs 1778. Thomas Burroughs 1835. George W. Burroughs 1852, 1873, 1891. The house was owned in 1922 by Moe, Son-In-Law of Burroughs and occupied by A. Braems in 1922. The house was gone by June 1930.

Rapelye House
Newtown - George I. Rapelye House - Corona George I. Rapelye House - SW corner of Way Ave. (102nd St.), old no. 60 Corona Ave. White, shingled house. Lydia Burroughs, daughter of Thomas Burroughs, married George I. Rapelye (B. 1787 Nova Scotia) in 1814. George's Father, a Loyalist, returned to Newtown around 1792 and died on this farm in 1829. It was the New Cottage Inn in 1935.
