H.C. Bohack Co. Service Station, 1933. H.C. Bohack Company was a local grocery store established in 1887, which became a chain of more than 150 stores and service stations by 1920 and continued to grow throughout the next four decades. The markets and stations, including this one, could be found in the city, throughout Long Island, and in sections of Westchester and Connecticut. The gas stations were a new venture in the 1920s and 1930s. The chain also bought out several grocery market businesses in the 1960s. After nearly a century of growth and profit, the Bohack Company had an unsuccessful merger in 1974 with the company Shopwell and went out of business three years later.
