Public School 65 ARCHITECT: James W. Naughton DATE: 1870 STYLE: Romanesque Revival Public School 65K, in the Cypress Hills section of Brooklyn, was originally built in 1870 and given its present Romanesque Revival facade by James W. Naughton in 1889. The building still functions as a public school and serves as a living reminder of the long history of public education in Kings County.

Public School 65, ca. 1930. The original section of this school building was constructed circa 1870 by an unknown architect. In 1889, the school, which was suffering from overcrowding, was extensively renovated under the direction of James Naughton, Superintendent of School Buildings in Brooklyn. Public School 65 remained in operation through the 21st century. Today a new Public School 65 operates nearby on Jamaica Avenue, while this building is home to Achievement First ENY, a charter school.
