Mausoleum of Cornelius Kingsland Garrison (1809-1885), ca. 1875. The Garrison mausoleum is one of the largest and most elaborate tombs at Green-Wood. It was designed by architect Griffith Thomas (who is interred at Green-Wood) in the Moorish Revival style, and constructed in the early 1870s. The elaborate stone fence seen in these early photographs has since been removed. (Lot 13628, Sec. 28)

Lundin's Brooklyn
Story
In the middle of the 20th century, Wigorot Lundin began making prints of the New York Transit Authority's survey negative. Taken in the 1910s and 20s, the photos show a city in transition, expanding with the advent of new technology. Lundin's Brooklyn sheds light on disparate parts of a borough, some bustling with modernity, while others border on the agrarian.

Intersection of 40th Street and Fort Hamilton Parkway, looking north, December 15, 1913. This survey photograph was taken prior to construction of the elevated BMT West End Line. The trees seen in the distance at center are in nearby Green-Wood Cemetery. The masonry building at left (979 40th Street) and still stands. The wood-frame building at right with the turret has unfortunately been replaced by a single store brick structure. The street is now shadowed by the elevated train tracks above. Notice the shadow of photographer G.W. Pullis and his camera at the bottom of the frame.

Mausoleum of William Niblo (1789-1875), opposite Crescent Water, ca. 1870. Nineteenth Century impresario William Niblo was the proprietor of the fashionable Niblo's Garden, a theatre that featured sensational entertainment from acrobats to vaudeville to opera. An entertainer in all aspects of his life, Niblo was known to host picnics for friends in front of his spectacular white marble mausoleum, which dates to the 1850's. He even stocked Crescent Water with goldfish to entertain his guests! (Lot 6618, Sec. 26)
